The advantage of using the patients autologous tissue rather than alternative injectable fillers is that the fat grafts are not as temporary as fillers.   In addition the fat also contains adult stem cells that produce various important growth factors.

The grafted fat is often harvested from the thigh,hip or abdomen where fat doesn’t thin with age.   Fat tissue is very fragile and about half the fat survives the process so it is important to explain  this to patients.

Fat injections can be a good alternative for patients wishing to have a secondary facelift.   It can give added fat for loss of volume and this may be enough improvement.

Stem Cell fat injections are a time consuming process and requirements can be artistically demanding but can give patients a good result for loss of volume and overall facial rejuvenation.

Dr. Ward has performed Vaser and conventional liposuction for over 25 years in the Phoenix, Scottsdale area and this minimally invasive form of Vaser Lipo also known as (Liposelection) is a common procedure in his practice.   Vaser liposuction liquefies the fat and causes less tissue trauma as well as bleeding.  It has been great addition to the practice giving his patients less swelling, less bruising and returning to their normal routine faster.

Dr. Ward uses a 3mm incision through a vaser probe and the ultrasonic energy causes the probe to vibrate and selectively liquefy the fatty tissue with minimal scars.

Ultronic sonic Vaser liposuction is also very successful under the arm area and can be an alternative for clients with fatty areas. This procedure provides minimal scarring as with brachioplasty(arm-lift).  Weight loss clients are generally not a candidate for vaser lipo as they have generally too much loose skin and require the arm lift procedure.

Male Breast Reduction: Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia which is the term used in plastic surgery for men with excess development of breast tissue.  This commonly occurs in 40-60% of men and Vaser liposuction greatly improves this area.  Dr. Ward performs this surgery on men and the benefits of tis surgery is a flatter,firmer chest area.  Many men comment it has given them a positive boost of self confidence.

Mommy make-overs continue to be a very popular surgery in my practice .  I am very happy to see clients desiring to improve both their breast and tummy areas and be able to enjoy their surgeries for many years.   The combination of both breast and tummy heal very well together and often are a financial savings for both surgeries at the same time.  A goal of mine is to reduce the amount post-operative pain involved following the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) to shorten the length of recovery time.   One very important part of my standard procedure is to give the my patients anti-nausea medication during the operation and also during their over-night stay at the recovery care center.  I have found pre-treating for nausea very beneficial in the recovery.    The use of oral pain medication has been most successful and have found pain pumps to be very heavy adding inconvenience and an unnecessary cost to patients.  To reduce unnecessary swelling a drain is placed to help with the swelling and then removed at 6 days after surgery.  I have found the requirement of a over-night stay at our recovery care center gives my patients a good start to speedy recovery and quicker return to normal activities.  Most of my patients return to work within 7-10 days with limited restrictions for exercise and heavy lifting.  For more information and photos please review my website wwwjohnwardmd.com

I have the patient come the day before surgery to discuss the tummy  incision placement. I have them bring their underwear and swimsuit so the placement of the scar is where the patient desires it and it works well with their under garments.  Over time the incision fades within 6 months to a year.   We have a laser skin care treatment that helps to improve the redness of the incision faster and no downtime.

Mommy makeover also includes  breast augmentations for a more youth fullness to the breast and or breast-lift with or without a breast implant for fullness.  In my Phoenix Arizona practice we maintain a complete inventory of samples of breast implants both saline and silicone and we spend a great deal of  time in the consultation deciding which is best for the patient and trying on sizes for best results.  The process we use to determine size and shape has been a very successful part of my practice and it is a rarity to have unhappy clients due to implant size and shape.  I specialize in providing the patient with a breast surgery that works and my technique involves years of experience with preparing the under the muscle  pocket and double stitching the breast incision so the implant never migrates lower than the breast crease or fold.  I believe in a frank discussion of your expectations and what we can achieve due to your body, size and shape.

Tummy Tucks (abdominoplasty), breast augmentation and  Mommy-makeovers (abdominoplasty and breast surgery together) are common surgeries in my Phoenix Arizona practice. I perform both of these surgeries every week of the year. Both tummy tucks and the mommy make-over surgeries are the most popular choices for young women in their teens to forties following pregnancies weight loss or lack of development who want to improve or restore their body.  Interest in post-pregnancy makeovers (mommy makeovers) is growing and  the addition of body contouring techniques (suction assisted lipectomy) which I have added as a part of  abdominoplsty surgery  has given my patients the best results. I view the Tummy Tuck (abdominoplasty) as a 3 part surgery and I include all these parts in my surgery with no additional fees. The three parts of a tummy tuck are:

#1 The loose skin and fat in the tummy area between the pubic hair and the belly button is removed. This often removes a marjority of the skin stretch marks.

#2 The abdominal muscles which are weakened by previous surgery as c-section weight loss or pregnancy are tightened by individually placed sutures. These stiches are permanent not visible and hold the muscle in a correct anatomical position. By placing separate stiches I have found the post operative recovery to be short less painful and my patients are able to stand straight within days after surgery.

#3 As part of my procedure I perform suction assisted lipectomy to remove localized fat deposits to contour areas under the breast on the sides of the hips and the pubic area.The addition of suction assisted lipectomy with the tummy tuck has greatly improved the post opererative stomach area cotours. Patients are very satisfied with the result.

In my practice my tummy tuck and mommy-makeover patients come for a pre-operative consult the day before surgery. During this second consult I review the operation its goals and plan the tummy tuck incision.  I ask my patients to bring their underwear or their swimsuit so as a team we can plain the tummy tuck incision where it will be beneath and covered by their clothes. I can achieve an excellent operative result any where the patient wants the scar placed. The day of the surgery we discuss the incision placement again to make sure we are in agreement.  This has been such an important step to patient satisfaction. A poorly placed incision is permanent not easily adjustable and avoidable by proper planning. After surgery you stay in a 24 hour recovery care center and I see you the next morning and you are discharged.  A follow -up appointment is made for 4-6 days later for your post operation review.  Most women go back to work within 7-10 days.

Many women elect to have breast surgery in combination with their tummy tuck.. The attraction to having this combination is one recovery time and the savings in surgery fees, operation fees and anesthesia fees by doing both the tummy and breast surgery together. Breast augmentation is an operation which increases the size of the breast by placing a breast implant. I use either a  saline or silicone breast implant and the patient decides which  implant  she prefers.  I provide samples of all sizes of breast implants both saline and silicone so the patient can try them on to decide the correct size.  I operate in a Arizona state certified facility and only utilize board certified anesthesiologist.
